With over two decades of phenolic fabrication experience, Thermaduct® offers advanced solutions for rectangular and round ductwork systems, combining performance and ease of installation. Our Thermatuff® system, introduced in 2026 provides robust pre-insulated phenolic base for both indoor and outdoor applications, eliminating the need for separate insulation.

Thermatuff® is a lightweight, durable materials that enhance both thermal efficiency and installation ease, ensuring low air leakage, and superior durability in the field. Whether you need duct systems for new construction or retrofit projects, Thermaduct®'s Thermatuff® phenolic system can be used as an insulated duct liner for sheet metal ductwork or a pre-insulated duct system. Our goal is to help you design commercial HVAC systems that meet the highest industry standards!

Phenolic Duct Liner

Features of Thermaduct's Thermatuff:

  • Phenolic Duct Liner - Glueless Application for Easy Installation in Sheet Metal Duct
  • Duct System - Flanged and Unflanged Connection Options
  • High Insulated Values - R6, R8 & R12
  • Smooth 80 Micron Aluminum facing on both sides
  • ASTM E84 25/50 Compliant
  • NFPA 90A Compliant
  • Lightweight - Ranging Up to 75% Lighter than Metal
  • Low Air Leakage
  • Lining Options Available for Special Applications

Thermatuff® can used anywhere a duct liner would normally be specified, but where there’s concern about how that liner will hold up over time or how it gets installed. Where traditional duct liners are installed using adhesives and pins, Thermatuff® uses a mechanical retention method instead.

Panels are secured using our patented liner retention clips or Airtruss® reinforcement, depending on duct size and pressure requirements. There’s no adhesive step and no cure time. Once the liner is installed and sealed, that section is complete.

From a field perspective, that removes a few common issues:

  • No glue setup or cleanup
  • No waiting on cure time
  • Less variation between installers

It keeps the process more consistent, especially on larger projects.

Thermatuff panels also use a thicker aluminum facing compared to typical duct liner materials. From a field standpoint, that shows up right away during handling and installation. The facing is less prone to tearing or damage when panels are cut, moved, or installed inside the duct. That durability helps maintain a consistent liner surface through fabrication and install, instead of relying on careful handling to avoid damage.

In healthcare, labs, and clean environments, the non-fibrous interior surface becomes important. On larger commercial jobs, consistency across multiple crews and phases tends to drive the decision.

Phenolic Insulation for Sheet Metal Ductwork

The Thermatuff® Difference

Pre-Insulated Ductwork

Thermatuff® panels provide a lightweight, pre-insulated duct solution that reduces handling effort compared to double-wall or externally insulated metal ductwork. High thermal performance is built into the panel, eliminating the need for separate insulation and jacketing after installation. The reduced system weight simplifies lifting, staging, and support requirements, while the thicker aluminum facings improve durability during fabrication, transport, and installation. When combined with standard SMACNA-based construction and reinforcement practices, Thermatuff® delivers consistent thermal performance with a cleaner, more efficient installation process.

Pair with our round or flat oval ductwork for a highly efficient HVAC system that will reduce energy costs now and into the future. We even offer brief online installer training to ensure your project gets off on the right foot!

Thermaduct®’s Thermatuff® solution is engineered to meet the specific needs of commercial HVAC systems, offering superior thermal performance, ease of installation, and durability in the field. Whether you’re designing for indoor or outdoor applications, Thermatuff® delivers cutting-edge, insulated solutions to optimize air distribution, reduce energy loss, and provide long-lasting durability.

By using a mechanically retained phenolic duct liner instead of an adhesive-based system, it removes installation variables and provides a more consistent result across the duct system. For contractors, that typically means fewer installation steps, fewer long-term concerns, and a liner that stays where it’s supposed to.

Thermatuff® FAQ

Learn more about Thermatuff® Duct Liner Panels

Does Thermatuff® require different fasteners, reinforcement, or sealing methods?

Thermatuff® uses Tuff-lock® panel fasteners and 4 bolt connections, conduit reinforcement and sealing methods that comply with the SMACNA Phenolic Duct Construction Standards. Additionally, Thermatuff® can be reinforced with our patented Airtruss® to handle higher static pressures beyond the SMACNA standard when installed per Thermaduct® guidelines.

Can Thermatuff® be used in layered configurations for higher R-values?

Yes! Thermatuff® can be layered to reach higher insulated values than a single panel can offer.

How does the thicker 80-micron facing improve jobsite durability?

The thicker 80 micron facing can handle jobsite conditions because it has better resistances to punctures and tears. The facings also improve panel rigidity, fastener interaction and greatly enhance vapor control in the field.

What does “zero perforations” mean for moisture resistance?

Zero perforations mean a fully encapsulated product with 0% open area. This provides long term resistance to moisture intrusion and material degradation.

How does Thermatuff® perform in outdoor rooftop conditions?

While the facing does provide increased durability, Thermatuff® requires a protective cladding when applied in outdoor applications Thermaduct® outdoor products with suitable vinyl or Kynar exterior foundation.

Is it suitable for high-humidity environments like pools or healthcare?

Thermatuff®’s zero perforation aluminum facing is exceptionally suitable for high humidity environments like pools and healthcare applications where aluminum is permissible. We also have additional lining options should your application need other options.

How does the glueless Airtruss retention system work?

Our Airtruss® reinforcement system members were originally designed to function as a backbone of our phenolic outdoor duct system. When applied to retain insulated panels in a duct system, a strong interaction between the outside surface and the Airtruss® rib will deponently strengthen the duct system.

Is adhesive still required in any liner applications?

No. Thermatuff® insulation is mechanically retained using either our Tuff-lock® retention clips or Airtruss® reinforcement system creating a much safer method of applying liner into any sheet metal duct system.

How does mechanical retention compare to glued liner performance?

Thermatuff® liner will strengthen a duct system with the use of the panel combined with Tuff-lock® retaining fasteners.
